Oskar Schindler
Here is the grave of Oskar Schindler. Steven Spielberg lionized Oskar Schindler in "Schindler's List". After the war, Oskar Schindler moved to Argentina with his wife and tried his hand at farming. Having failed, he returned to Germany on his own and lived out his life alone and in poverty punctuated by annual visits to Israel, where he was treated like royalty.

In the last scene of Schindler's List, the Jews place stones on his grave to mark the shape of a cross. I was surprised to find stones still covering his grave in that shape, although I suspected they were stones placed by more recent visitors who wished to leave a mark of their visit and remembrance of the man.

Travel Tip
Oskar Schindler's grave isn't at the Lutheran church near the Holy Sepulcher Church as some claim, and is tricky to find. To get to Oskar Schindler's grave, walk about 300 yards downhill from the Zion Gate until you come to a small parking lot, across the road from which are two unmarked gates. Walk through the gate on the right as you face it, and into the sprawling cemetery. Then walk down two levels to find his grave near the center of the third (the lowest) level. The stones on top may still be there to help you find it.
